Back to Basics Beanie

Lately, I have been teaching the basics of crochet to a few of my friends. Many have asked me to show them how to crochet a hat/beanie. The first beanie I ever crocheted was one that was worked in the round from top down. I decided that this approach was probably the easiest to show them.

My Back to Basics Beanie is for those who are new to crochet and are looking for a beanie pattern that uses basic crochet stitches and techniques. This pattern is also great for seasoned crocheters as well! It is crocheted in the round and uses on the the half double crochet stitch and the slip stitch. I chose to add a little texture at the brim. I love the simplicity of this beanie pattern. I have included instructions for a fitted beanie and a slouchy beanie.

I chose to use Caron Simply Soft for this pattern. This was my first ever yarn that I worked with when learning to crochet. I love this yarn because it is available in almost any store that sells yarn. It comes in so many colors that I have lost count. I love the sheen that it gives as well as the stitch definition. It is a great beginner yarn.

Primrose Slouchy Beanie

Beanies and hats are hands down my favorite thing to crochet. I think one of the reasons why they are my favorite is because they can be crocheted multiple ways. I typically crochet my beanies either top down (in the round), bottom up (creating a band, joining the band, then crocheting the body and cinching at the top) or by crocheting a rectangle, sewing the shorter ends together, and then cinching the top. Easy Herringbone Slouch

Have you ever used roving yarn?  I have been wanting to create a pattern using roving yarn for a while now but I just never seemed to get around to it. There have been so many times when I had it in my hands and was ready to buy but always ended up putting it back and getting distracted with some other kind of yarn lol! Roving yarn is yarn that is usually bulky and is not twisted or plied like many other types of yarn. It is created in a long and narrow bundle of fiber.  It can be used for felting and is incredibly resilient. [Read more…]

Sunrise Slouch

I don’t know about you, but I love a pop of color. Especially when that pop of color is combined with more muted or neutral shades.

The days are starting to get a lot colder here in Jersey. I don’t mind the cold, as long as I’m bundled up. But one thing I know that comes with the Winter months are more dreary and gray days…boo! It starts to get darker out earlier as well. But no matter how dreary the days may seem, there is always a sunrise to every day! Every morning there is a peek (or pop) of color you can see against the clouds. The sunrise was my inspiration for this beanie. [Read more…]

Alabaster Slouch

Hello Everyone! I hope your week is going well. This week has been pretty busy for me. The other day I was cleaning/organizing my yarn stash and came across some skeins I bought awhile ago but didn’t have a purpose for at the time. I was so excited to find them. It was like a little Christmas present waiting to be found! Anywho, I absolutely love the color of this yarn (which is kinda weird because I tend to gravitate toward bright colors). [Read more…]

The Every Girl Slouch

Hi everyone! So I thought I would share with you a slouchy hat pattern that I created about 2 years ago! I made it on a whim and it literally has been my everyday, go-to slouchy beanie! I love the drape that it has and the color will match pretty much any outfit (of course you can use any color you like). It is a very simple pattern. The brim is created by working slip stitches in the back loop only and the body of the hat is worked using single and double crochet stitches. [Read more…]
