Learn how to crochet the Pique Stitch with this easy step-by-step tutorial. Using a simple combination of double crochet and half double crochet, this stitch is great for beginners.

The Pique Stitch creates a beautifully textured fabric that works great for blankets, afghans, and even scarves. It’s the same stitch I used to create my Sunset Stripes Blanket.
I have also included a video tutorial for those who are more of a visual learner. :)

Chain (ch)
Yarn over (yo)
Stitch (st)
Repeat (Rep)

Because the Pique Stitch is crocheted by combining two stitches into one, a larger hook is needed to crochet the foundation chain. I recommend going up at least 2 hook sizes from the hook you are using for your yarn.
With larger hook, make a chain in any multiple
Switch to smaller hook
Row 1 – In the 2nd ch from the hook, *yo and insert hook into ch and pull up a loop. Yo, and pull through first two loops on hook. Yo, insert hook back into the same ch and pull up a loop. Yo and pull through all four loops on hook.* Repeat *until end of chain.
Row 2 – Ch.3 (does not count as a st here and throughout), *yo and insert hook into first st and pull up a loop. Yo, and pull through first two loops on hook. Yo, insert hook back into the same st and pull up a loop. Yo and pull through all four loops on hook.* Repeat *until end of row.
To continue with your pattern you will repeat Row 2
