Crochet Mesh Stitch Blanket

Inspiration

My inspiration for the crochet Mesh Stitch Blanket is simple – I wanted to create a pattern that was pretty much mindless and effortless in construction. I wanted it to be a pattern that you can crochet while watching TV or to allow your mind to simply wander while still crocheting with no mistakes. My favorite type of blankets to crochet are those that require little thinking but also turn out beautiful. 

Design & Yarn

The design of the crochet Mesh Stitch Blanket consists of a simple two stitch repeat. You will crochet a single crochet followed by a chain stitch, and continue repeating until the end of the row. What this creates is a beautifully textured stitch. I used a Random Stripe Generator to create the specific stripe pattern you see in the blanket. I first selected two colors. Then, I selected an even number of rows because I only wanted to weave in the ends on one side of the blanket. I then typed in 138 rows to generate the stripes. 

If you would like to crochet the blanket in the same stripe pattern you see in the photos, I have included the striping pattern in the Pattern Instructions. 

Because the construction of this blanket is very easy, it can virtually be crocheted in any size. Simply crochet more/less chains in an EVEN number if you’d like to alter the width of the blanket, and just crochet more/less rows if you would like to alter the length.

The yarn I used to crochet the Mesh Stitch blanket is Hobby Lobby’s I love this Yarn in their Solids and Prints. I love this yarn because the choices are endless when it’s comes to color. You can have so much fun mixing Solids and Prints. The colors you see in the photos are Ivory and The Struggle is Teal. Feel free to use whatever colors you like for the pattern. Any worsted weight yarn will work as well.

The dimensions of the Mesh Stitch blanket is 40” x 32.” The size of a lap blanket.

Hobby Lobby I love this Yarn (7oz/355yds) #4 worsted weight. You will need 2 skeins in the color Ivory (Color A) and 2 skeins in the color The Struggle is Teal (Color B).

6mm/Size J crochet hook

Mesh Stitch Blanket Instructions

Ch. 120

Row 1 – sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, ch.1, sk next ch., and make a sc in the next ch. *ch.1, sk next ch and make a sc in the next ch.* Rep* til the end of the chain. (119st)

Row 2 – Ch.1 turn, sc in the first st, ch.1, sk next st and make a sc in the next. *ch.1, sk next st and make a sc in the next.* Rep *til the end of the row. (119st)

Every Row in the blanket is worked by Repeating Row 2. To follow the color pattern of the stripes, continue with the Rows below.

When you are finished, simply bind off and weave in all ends!
