Inspiration
Anyone who knows me knows that I love color! The more color the better! I wanted to create a blanket pattern that incorporates many different colors. As you know, when you work with many different colors, you can end up having to complete multiple color changes. Not to mention, all those dreaded ends to weave in at the end of your project.
I thought it would be a fun challenge to combine multiple colors using the least amount of skeins possible. I ended up coming back to a tried and true yarn- Lion Brand Mandala. Over the years, many colors have been added to their line. If you have never worked with Mandala, I highly recommend it. I used this yarn to create my Color block Cardigan pattern.

Design and Construction
As mentioned above, I chose to go with Lion Brand Mandala to create my Color Medley Blanket pattern. Mandala is a #3 lightweight, self-striping yarn that is 100% acrylic. Consisting of a whopping 590yds, it creates long, seamless color changes making it a perfect choice for blankets. Currently, there are 30 different color ways on the Lion Brand website to choose from.
I chose to combine two different colors for the Color Medley Crochet blanket. The colors I chose are Mantis and Doxy. For the majority of the blanket I followed the color palette that each individual skein provided. There were parts in the construction where I chose to bind off and start the next row with a different color.
With a blanket that features this many colors, you would typically be faced with the task of weaving in multiple ends. The Mandala yarn pretty much eliminates that pesky process!
The Color Medley blanket uses the Alternating Double Cluster stitch. Each cluster is made up of three double crochets that are joined together at the top and bottom. These clusters are held together by a mesh of single crochet that help offset the clusters. I have included a diagram below to help those who like reading from a graph.

Sizing
The size of the Crochet Color Medley Blanket is 44″(L) x 40″(W). This is the size of a lapghan. It is the perfect size to cover your legs and lap while seated. The size of the blanket is very easy to adjust.
If you would like to adjust the WIDTH of your blanket, make a starting chain in an ODD number of stitches, then add three more for the turning chain. If you would like to adjust the length of your blanket, simply crochet less rows.
Gauge is approximately 7 cluster stitches across X 8 rows of clusters = 4″

Below is a picture of the entire blanket and the colors I used going from the bottom to top. You can see where I started with Mantis (bottom) and then changed to Doxy and so on. I just followed the colors as they appeared in each skein. However, there was one time where I chose to bind off and add a different color in the sequence. Specifically with the color Doxy.

Bind off and weave in all ends!
