slouchy crochet legwarmer pattern

I’m so excited to share with you the pattern for my crochet Slouchy Legwarmers. I have been wanting to make a pair of legwarmers for a while now.  They are so easy to make and are perfect for wearing around the house or with your favorite boots.

Scroll down for the free pattern or you can purchase an ad free version HERE.

I am a person that is always cold. We have nothing but tile and hardwood floors in my house so my feet are always chilly. I love the idea of a pair of cozy legwarmers to keep my feet and legs warm!

Disclosure: There are some affiliate links below, but these are all products I highly recommend. I won’t put anything in this post that I have not personally used or tested.

The Yarn

The yarn I used for this pattern is from Knitpicks and is called Brava Sport.  This yarn is a lightweight acrylic yarn that comes in a wide range of bright and vibrant colors. It is a durable yarn that is both hypoallergenic and machine washable.

I really enjoyed crocheting with this yarn. I love the sheen and lightness of the yarn. It also provides great stitch definition and drape. If you are looking for a great all purpose sport weight yarn, this is definitely a great choice.

The Construction

The construction of these slouchy crochet legwarmers is quite simple. They are first worked by crocheting the band in back loop single crochets. The band is then slip stitched together to form a tube. The body of the legwarmer is crocheted in a cluster stitch that is worked in the round. The bottom band is worked by crocheting  in back and forth rows that are attached to the edge of the legwarmer through slip stitches.

These crochet legwarmers are so easy and fast to work up. I know you’re gonna love wearing them!

Lets get to the pattern!

NOTES

  • Legwarmer is worked by making the top band first, then the body of the legwarmer. The bottom band is worked last.
  • Each round of the body is joined with a ss to first hdc of the round.
  • If you would like a more slouchy look, simply crochet more rows.
  • If you would like a less slouchy look, crochet fewer rows.

CROCHET SLOUCHY LEGWARMER PATTERN

Gauge is 22sc rows x 17sc across = Approx. 4″

TOP BAND

With fabric measuring tape, measure the circumference of your ankle in inches. This is how long you will make your band. My ankle measured 9.5in

Ch.13

Row 1 – (working in back bump of ch) Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. (12)

Row 2 – Ch.1 turn, sc blo in every st across (12). I like to work through both loops for the first and last stitch of the row. This is completely optional.

Rows 3 thru 53 – Repeat Row 2.

NOTE: You may have to crochet more or less rows depending on your ankle measurement.

Slip stitch short sides together to form a tube.

Next, Ch.1 and make 34 sc along edge of band. Join with a ss to first sc. Again, you may have to crochet more or less sc along edge depending on your ankle measurement.

Round 1 – Ch.2 turn work, hdc in same st, GS in the next st and each st around. Join to first hdc of round. (34)

Rounds 2 thru 27 – Repeat Round 1 (remember to turn work after every round)

Round 28 – Ch.1 turn, sc in same st and each st around. (34)

Do not bind off

BOTTOM BAND

The bottom band is worked with a technique that allows the band to be joined to the edge of the legwarmer through slip stitches. I highly suggest watching the video tutorial HERE before you start.

Ch.13

Row 1 -Start by making a sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. Continue making a sc all the way down the chain. You will have 12 sc.

Next, make a slip stitch in the next 2 sc of the edge of band.

Row 2 – Turn work, skip the 2 slip stitches you made and work a sc blo in the next st and each st remaining of the row, working back up the band. (12)

Row 3 – Ch.1 turn, sc blo in every st down the row (12). Make a ss in the next 2 sc of the edge of the legwarmer.

Continue repeating rows 2 and 3 vertically until you have worked all the way around the edge of the legwarmer.

Join both ends of band by either sewing or slip stitching ends together.

If desired, sew two buttons to the top band of each legwarmer.

Weave in all ends!

This is a lovely pattern and I cannot wait to make it – though I have stumbled before I’ve even started. My ankles as 7.5″, so smaller than yours. Does this mean that I am chaining less than 13?

      Many thanks

        Hi Marie!

No, if you’re ankle is smaller that you will crochet less rows for the band. I had 53 rows so you will have much less rows. Hope this helps!

Hi Mary! Thank you for this lovely pattern! I’ve started to crochet it, and although I’m already half way, I still have a question that “bothers” me: after the top band when you make the scs around it, how/where did you make the stitches? I just don’t get the 34 sc. 🙂 For me the top band was 55 rows, and than 42 sc. Is it only because of the yarn type I use? Anyway, I love the pattern, thank you!

There is no designated area or stitch to make your single crochets. You will need to work along the free edge of your work.

Can you please show pictures of making the 34 sc at the edge of the top band. I just can’t picture it

I love these! I’m not sure where I’m going wrong, but the body of the warmer is getting wider an wider although my stiches are the same on each row? I did 32 single crochets after the cuff.
