I am really excited to share this new crochet Lazy Days pullover crochet design with you! Hands down this is the pattern that I am most proud of. It represents my style so much. I love pieces that are totally functional yet comfy and stylish.
The Yarn
I knew I wanted to create a pullover that was lightweight. I have been wanting to try Lion Brand’s new Ombre Life yarn for a while now, and I thought this design would be perfect for it! This yarn is a #2 weight yarn, so it is definitely on the lighter side. It comes in a number of different colors as well. The combination of cotton and acrylic makes this yarn super comfy.
Construction
Because this type of yarn can be very slow moving, I decided to keep the construction simple. The entire pullover is crocheted in the half double crochet stitch and the half double crochet decrease stitch. I really wanted this to be a beginner friendly pattern as well.
I kept the shaping around the neckline simple enough for a beginner. No need to be intimidated, I promise! I absolutely love the hood to this pullover. I feel it adds to the overall comfiness and ease of the design.
I can really see this Lazy Days Pullover becoming a staple in my wardrobe. I’m already thinking of crocheting one in another color. I really hope you all enjoy this pattern!

NOTES
-
- This crochet pullover is worked in 3 pieces: A back panel, front panel and the hood.
- The hood is worked by attaching yarn to the collar and working around the collar in a rectangle that is then sewn together at the top.
- The sleeves are worked by attaching yarn underneath armpit area and working in turned rows. You will only join on the first row. The sleeve is then sewn together.
- If you would like to alter the length of the pullover, simply add/delete rows in both the front and back panels.
- Whenever it says to sew/seam two pieces together, always flip them inside out and whip/mattress stitch them together to get a cleaner look.
- The shaping of the front panel is achieved by adding decrease rows to the inside edges of the panel.

The pattern is written for a size Medium.
Gauge is approx. 17 hdc across x 13 hdc rows = 4″

Front Panel:
Repeat rows 1 thru 44 from Back panel.
Do not bind off.
Shaping of left shoulder:
Row 45 – Ch.1 turn, hdc in the next 36 (33,36,39) stitches.
Row 46 – Ch.1 turn, hdc in every st across. 36 (33,36,39)
Rows 47 thru 68 – Repeat row 46
Now we will begin to decrease.
Row 69 – Ch.1 turn, hdc in every st across. Make a hdc dec over the last two stitches. (35) (32,35,38)
Row 70 – Ch.1 turn, hdc dec over the first two stitches, hdc in every st left in the row. (34) (31,34,37)
Rows 71 thru 80 – Repeat rows 69 & 70 respectively making a decrease in every row. At the end of row 80 you will have (21,24,27) stitches. Bind off.
Shaping of right shoulder:
With the right side facing you and counting left to right, attach yarn at (33,36,39) stitch). You will have 4 stitches between each shoulder.
Row 45 – Ch.1, hdc in the same st and each st across. (36) (33,36,39)
Row 46 – Ch.1 turn, hdc in every st across. (36) (33,36,39)
Rows 47 thru 68 – Repeat row 46
Now we will begin to decrease.
Row 69 – Ch.1, hdc dec over the first two stitches, hdc in every st left in the row. (35) (32,35,38)
Row 70 – Ch.1 turn, hdc in every st across. Make a hc dec over the last two stitches. (34) (31,34,37)
Rows 71 thru 80 – Repeat rows 69 & 70 respectively making a decrease in every row. At the end of row 80 you will have (21,24,27) stitches. Bind off.
Sew the top of the front and back panel shoulders together. This should be 21 st – S, 24 st – M, 27 st – L.
Next, sew sides of front and back panel together leaving roughly 7in for the armhole opening for a size M. It is up to you how much room you want to leave for the armhole opening. Leave 3in not sewn at the bottom.
Sleeves: (Repeat for both)
Attach yarn underneath armhole. Make 60 hdc all the way around the edge of the armhole. Join with a ss to first hdc. This is the only row you join. The rest of the sleeve is worked in turned rows that are sewn together.
Note: The number of hdc stitches you make around the armhole edge does not matter. This number of hdc stitches will depend on how much room you left for the opening of the armhole.
Row 1 – Ch.1, hdc in the first st and every st across. (60)
Row 2 – Ch.1 turn, hdc in every st across. (60)
Rows 3 thru 5 – Repeat row 2
Now we will create decreases.
Row 6 – Ch.1 turn, hdc dec over the first two stitches, hdc in every st across. Then, make a hdc dec over the last two stitches. (58) The number of stitches you will have in this row will be 2 less than what you started with.
Rows 7 & 8 – Ch.1 turn, hdc in every st across. (58)
Repeat rows 6 thru 8 – 5 more times
You will have a total of 12 decreases after you finish the 3 row sequence (dec, row, row) 5 more times. For example, I started with 60 stitches, so I ended with 48 stitches.
The next 30 rows – Ch.1 turn, hdc in every st across. Bind off.
Sew sleeve together.
Hood:
With the front facing you, attach yarn to right side of collar where the decreases start. If you are unsure as to where this is, refer to diagram above.
Row 1 – Ch.1 and hdc all the way around the edge of the collar and back down the left side to where the decreases started. Again, the number of stitches does not matter. For reference I made 74 hdc.
Rows 2 thru 44 – Ch.1 turn, hdc in every st across. (74)
Bind off leaving a long enough tail to sew hood together.
Next, fold the rectangle vertically and sew the top of the hood together. Bind off.
Edging:
Attach yarn to right side of collar and complete hdc all the way around the opening. I chose to complete 3 hdc decreases at the base of the opening to give a more clean edge.
Bind off!

It’s a lovely sweater & I’m searching for a pullover pattern. Question: would Mandala cakes be an ok substitute? I can’t find the weight of Ombré to compare. I have not worked with Mandala and I’m looking for a soft, not stiff, look. Thank you.
The mandala yarn is thicker so the dimensions will be off a bit. The mandala is a #3 yarn and the ombre life is a #2. My Colorblock Cardigan is worked with the Mandala and that is not stiff at all. Hope this helps!
I’ve been searching for patterns using the ombré life yarn and finally I came across yours. I am crocheting a top wondering if it was going to look too light. Seeing your finished product is a help. I have another set of ombré in a different color and I will be trying your pattern with it.
Yay! Would love to see it when it’s finished 🙂
