The Ombre Boho Vest is a fun and colorful crochet vest that looks flattering on any one. Crochet one for yourself or for any little girl, mom, sister etc. in your life!
Inspiration
So lately I have been branching out and trying new yarns. I am always looking to see what’s new in the yarn world. Sometimes I tend to use the same brands over and over again. There are so many different types of yarn out there that it can be overwhelming…..and expensive 🙂
The Yarn
The other day I was in my local A.C. Moore and came across Red Heart’s new Super Saver Ombre yarn. When I saw the colors and how well they blended together with the ombre effect, I had to try it! I’m glad I did! Plus, I used my half off coupon, so I got the yarn for under $5! Woo hoo!
My thought process with this yarn was to see if I could challenge myself and create something I have never done before with only one skein of yarn. Well, I did! The Ombre Boho Vest pattern uses only one skein. Yep, that’s it!! I will say that I had a very tiny amount of yarn left over. I did not have enough for the fringe but, I was going to use white for that any way. I love the contrast of the clean white against the brightness of the coral.
This crochet pattern is very easy to crochet. I use the same stitch (Triangle Stitch) that I used in my Shore Points top. I hope you enjoy the pattern 🙂

SIZING
I’m going to say that the size of the written vest pattern is a Small. If you want to adjust the size, I would suggest adding six stitches more for the next size up. For example, the pattern is worked in multiples of 3. Size Small is worked with a foundation of 99 stitches. If you would like a Medium, add six stitches for a total of 105. If you would like to crochet a Large then add six more to 105 for a total of 111….and so on.
MATERIALS
1 skein of Red Heart Super Saver Ombre. The color in the photos is Sea Coral. If you want to make a bigger size, you will need 2 skeins of yarn.
Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice yarn in White (optional). I used this for the fringe and trim around the opening and armholes.

Bind off
Turn rectangle over. Attach yarn to first stitch and complete rows 1 thru 18 for the second shoulder.
What your work should look like after both shoulders are complete
For the back:
You should have 65 stitches left in the middle for the back.
Counting from right to left, attach yarn on the 15th stitch of your 65 stitches. I used a piece of contrasting yarn to show where your first stitch and last stitch should be.
Row 1 – Ch.4 and complete 17 triangles across. On the last triangle, ch.1 and hdc in the next stitch. (37)
Row 2 – Ch.1 turn, sc in first stitch, sc in ch.1, 2 sc in each of the 17 ch-2 spaces. 1 sc in the 3rd ch. of the ch.4 of the previous row. (37)
Rows 3 thru 18 – Repeat rows 1 and 2 respectively
Bind off
Flip work over so wrong side is facing you
Fold both shoulders in and line up the stitches of the top of the shoulder with the back and sew it together. Sew both shoulders.
Weave in all ends.
I chose to do a simple sc border in white around each armhole and the opening. I also added fringe to the bottom. If you would like to add fringe to your vest, click HERE for a tutorial!

Do you ever do videos ? I am in a Crochet Club and some one asked if there was a video of this pattern . Looks pretty easy to follow but some people can not use written patterns .
Hi Linda!
At the moment I do not have videos. It is something that I will be doing in the near future. If this pattern is something you would like to see a video on, I will definitely try to make that happen!
I really like the pattern but row 1 does not make sense and there is not *** to *** to know where to repeat the pattern. . If possible would you reword it for me .I really would appreciate it. Thank you .
Hi!
Did you click on the link to watch the video tutorial for the Triangle stitch? This may help you. Essentially all you are doing is a sc in every stitch or ch-2 space. Let me know if you need any more help!
I made a mistake , it is not row 1 but 2 .
i made this vest . i wanted it for me so i added 18 stitches to make it larger. it came out beautiful but small enough for a 6 year old. i used an i hook. what did i do wrong. i want this vest for me. lol my granddaughter is thrilled with it. any suggestions
Hi Joan!
Well I’m glad your granddaughter loves it lol! It seems like you made the vest wider but not longer. To do this, you need to add more rows. That will determine the length. I would suggest crocheting more rows and stop when the length reaches right underneath your armpit. Hope that helps! Any more questions, I’m here 🙂
Thank you for sharing. I love the fact that it uses a different stitch to make it unique.
Thank you!
Do you happen to have info for a gauge swatch? I don’t see one above and apparently I crochet pretty loosely and I would hate to make this amazing vest and have it not fit.
Hi Cori!
The gauge is 9 Triangles stitches is roughly 6in across. Hope this helps!
