Hello Everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! Like I mentioned before, I have been exploring different crochet techniques lately. It has been very eye opening learning about all the different stitches. The crochet world is always changing. It doesn’t matter how long you have been crocheting, there is always something to learn! One area that fascinates me is fair isle crochet!
I love the colorwork that fair isle crochet creates. The possibilities are endless! The pattern that I have written for this beanie is a perfect pattern to introduce you to fair isle crochet. It is a very beginner friendly pattern consisting primarily of single crochet stitches.
You will need three colors of any worsted weight yarn for this pattern. I used Vanna’s Choice yarn because the color choices are endless and it’s good quality! The beanie pattern is worked from the bottom up and then is cinched at the top! I hope you enjoy this pattern!

Fair Isle Stitch (FIS)
*Note – In this pattern you will use a fair isle stitch (fis). To complete this stitch, insert hook into the next stitch, pull up gray with hook. yo with blue and pull through both loops on hook. The two loops on your hook when you pull through should be one grey and one blue. There is a great video tutorial by Sierra at SweetEverlyB explaining this stitch. It is Method #1 in her tutorial.
Also note that in Sierra’s tutorial of the fair isle stitch, she is crocheting the center singe crochet. This beanie pattern is written using the traditional single crochet to complete the stitch.

What a beautiful hat! If I need hat larger, how many more rows on the brim to I need to do….is there a multiple to make the hearts come out even?
Hi Debbie!
Measure the head circumference and make the brim that length. The stitch count needs to be a multiple of 4.
Well I wish I had read the comments first. LOL Was having issues around gauge being too tight and wondered what gauge you made the hat to. Knowing the stitch count needs to be a multiple of 4 and making it to head circumference is all I need to know. Thank you.
Thank you!
I am almost done with this hat but just noticed that row 17 is the same as row 18 but indicates less final stitch count. Is that correct?
