So last week I shared with you my pattern for the Lenape Cowl. I really loved the cowl so much that I decided to make a Lenape Slouch beanie. It is crocheted using the same Twin Cluster stitch. If you do not know this stitch, you can click on the link above and it will take you to a tutorial for the stitch.
The pattern is worked by first making the band, and then crocheting along the edge of the band in rows. It is then sewed down the side and cinched at the top.
I really hope you enjoy this Lenape Slouch pattern. I really love how it looks with the cowl. The set would make a great gift! Both the cowl and the beanie are crocheted using only 2 skeins of Lion Brand Heartland yarn! You can’t beat that, right?

Hi there. So I’m just about finished with part 1, the band for this hat. I was reading ahead and was wondering if you could explain how to evenly “work 64 sc ” along the band.
Thanks!
Hi Kristin!
You are going to work 64 sc along the longer side of the band. There is no designated spot to make these sc. You will need to determine where to work them. Hope that helps!
How many TC’s should there be initially after the first 64 SC’s? I ended up with 16, which doesn’t get me even close to the next 64 SCs? Thanks in advance for the help. Really love this pattern and under the gun to complete for a Birthday gift.
Hi Doreen!
You should have 21 TC’s. If you made 64 sc’s then you should be ending up with 21. Did you review the stitch tutorial?
I did and repeated twice. With 64 SC I end up with 16 TC if following the pattern??
So sorry, I didn’t see your response until now. Each TC takes up 3 stitches. So 21 x 3 = 63. Then you add 1 more for the turning chain to get 64. I’m not sure why you are only getting 16. I’m sorry, I wish I could help and see what is wrong.
I did the same thing Doreen. I figured out that I was skipping a stitch in between the TC. Within the TC you skip but between them….you go right to the next sc. Hope that helps!
Is there also a pattern for the scarf? Did I miss it?
I am sorry. I found it.
No problem 🙂
I am starting part two. I am on Row 2. I wonder if there is a way you can explain. I did the ” Ch. 1 turn, sk first dc, 1 sc in ch-1 space, *1 sc in top of TC,…” Where is the ” 2 sc in ch-2 space* ” And then I am looking ahead and I do not understand the other SC in chains. Is there a way you can explain? Or is there a video?
I love this stitch on a beanie ! Works up really fast and once i tested the pattern I got the hang of it. I might have to make another hat for my colleague.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you like the stitch!
Hi there, absolutely loving the pattern, but Row 8 is giving me a problem. I can’t seem to come up with 58 stiches, I’m always coming up short. When it says “2 sc in the next ch-2 space (twice) ” I’m assuming that means I don’t do the TC between the twice. I’m not sure what I’m missing! lol Thank you so much
Hi Lorri!
After you complete a decrease (which is written in bold) you will then complete the next sequence twice. So for example, in the second line of row 8, right after the decrease, its written “1 sc in the next TC, 2 sc in the next ch-2 space (twice) So essentially you are completing that whole sequence 2 times. And when it says 3 times, you will complete that same sequence 3 more times. I hope this makes sense!
At the end of the first row of body I am confused where it says “don’t forget to put a DC in the turning chain (ch1). “ Where in the turning chain? Then row 3 says to put a sc under the ch4? Very confused, and I’ve read it over & over. Thx
Hi Cindy!
Yes, you will make a sc in the turning ch of the previous row. It ca be small and hard to locate. That is why I made a note about it “:) At the end of row 3 you will make a sc under the ch.4 of the previous round. Hope this helps!
Thank you for a quick answer. Love your patterns, thank you for sharing with us.
You’re welcome! 🙂
Hi Mary I was wondering if you could tell me how to adjust the pattern for a smaller size head the 18.5 inch band is too large for my head but I don’t know how to adjust it down to get the right amount of stitches for the rest of the hat Can’t figure out what the multiple will be
Looking forward to making the hat if You can advise on how to make it smaller
Thanks
Sharyl
Any multiple of 3 will work 🙂
Question: Is the pattern for Heartland Thick & Quick or for worsted weight? I have some Thick & Quick that I would love to use for this set. But looking at the pictures, I think your pattern is for worsted. Can you clarify that for me?
Hi Pat!
It’s the worsted weight.
