The Wonderland Beanie is a gorgeous textured beanie that features beginner stitches. This pattern is fast and easy and makes for a great gift!
I have been wanting to create this beanie pattern for a while now. I have been feeling a little unmotivated lately. The Christmas holiday is behind us and we can finally give a sigh of relief. Sometimes all I wanna do is just SIT! Does that makes me lazy?? I hope not.
Well I finally sat down and told myself that I was not getting up until I created this pattern. This seemed like a monumental task at times because my boys must of asked me to get something for them about a hundred times. I don’t know about you but it’s so hard to get myself to refocus every time I get interrupted when crocheting.
The Construction
Half of this crochet beanie pattern was created using the same stitch that I used in my Fluffy Clouds Infinity Scarf. It consists of two basic stitches that create a very interesting texture. The other half of the beanie is created using the single crochet stitch. This pattern is very beginner friendly.
I worked this beanie from the bottom up, and closed the beanie at the top. I created a simple pom-pom using my Clover pom-pom maker. There are a bunch of tutorials on Pinterest and Youtube showing how to create your own pom-pom. I really hope you enjoy this beginner friendly pattern!
The Yarn
The yarn I chose for the Wonderland Beanie is Patons Classic Wool Worsted. This is one of my favorite wool yarns. A lot of time I find wool to be quite itchy. This yarn is very soft without the itch. If you are allergic to wool, any worsted weight yarn will work for this beanie. A few favorites of mine are WeCrochet Brava Worsted and Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice.

Flip your beanie upside down and pull the yarn to close the top of the beanie. Weave your needle in and out through the top of the beanie to tighten. Weave in any loose ends.

I love this hat but I’m confused on round17 I HV more then 10 stitches left what am I doing wrong at the beginning of the round is it a total of17 sc?
Hi Debbie! Ok, so I double checked the pattern. You essentially are taking out 6 stitches in round 17. You are going from 65 to 59. After you crochet nine stitches in the beginning of the round, make sure you sc decrease in the next. Then, crochet 9 more stitches, sc decrease in the next. Keep repeating this until you have 10 stitches left. Then, crochet in the next 6 stitches, sc decrease in the next and then complete 1 sc in the last two stitches. Hope this helps!
Hi Mary, I love the look of this beanie and plan on trying it. I just need to know what your gauge is for this pattern please. I tend to be a tight gauge so i will really apprecieate knowing your gauge. Thanks
Carolyn
Hi Carolyn!
The yarn in the pattern is what I would consider a lighter weight worsted yarn. I also crochet with a tight gauge. With a 4.5mm hook, the gauge is roughly 7 rows of sc equals a 2″ square. If you work with a yarn that is a little thicker then the gauge with be bigger. Hope this helps!
Thanks Mary I will work on that 🙂
how could I adjust the stitches to make this for a kid?
LOVE this pattern!
Hi!
I would suggest making your foundation chain the circumference of the desired length. Measure the circumference of the head first, then make your foundation chain that length. Just make sure the chain is an ODD number. You can then just follow the pattern how it is written.
l love this post! I read your blog fairly often and you’re
always coming out with some great stuff. I shared this on my facebook
and my follower love it! Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you like the beanie!
Hi Mary, I’m pretty new to crochet and I’m not sure what you mean when you say turn. do you turn and go back or turn inside out? I love how this hat looks and really want to try it. Thanks so very much.
Hi Jeanne!
That means to turn your work in the opposite direction. Let me know if you have any other questions!
