My Back to Basics Beanie is for those who are new to crochet and are looking for a beanie pattern that uses basic crochet stitches and techniques. This pattern is also great for seasoned crocheters as well!
Lately, I have been teaching the basics of crochet to a few of my friends. Many have asked me to show them how to crochet a hat/beanie. The first beanie I ever crocheted was one that was worked in the round from top down. I decided that this approach was probably the easiest to show them.
It is crocheted in the round and uses only the the half double crochet stitch and the slip stitch. I chose to add a little texture at the brim. I love the simplicity of this beanie pattern. I have included instructions for a fitted beanie and a slouchy beanie.
I chose to use Caron Simply Soft for this pattern. This was my first ever yarn that I worked with when learning to crochet. I love this yarn because it is available in almost any store that sells yarn. It comes in so many colors that I have lost count. I love the sheen that it gives as well as the stitch definition. It is a great beginner yarn.
